Greening the European Green Bond market
The green bond market is entering a challenging decade. Europe's ambitious carbon emission target will require an estimated €330 billion of energy-related investments. Green bonds markets have the potential to contribute significantly to that challenge. The European Commission is expected to come up with a legislative proposal for a EU Green Bond Standard (GBS) in the upcoming months, to provide a common EU framework for the European green bond market. Last month Sven Gentner (European Commission), Cristina Lacaci (Morgan Stanley), Justine Leigh-Bell (Climate Bonds Initiative) and Geert Arlman (S&P Global) discussed the upcoming Commission proposal and future of the European Green Bond markets during a CEPS-ECMI webinar. This report summarizes the discussions.
